Zahaan Kapoor, the grandson of the legendary actor Shashi Kapoor, is establishing his own presence in the entertainment world. His latest project, Black Warrant, marks his second significant role, where he plays Sunil Kumar Gupta. Despite being part of the famous Kapoor family, Zahaan has made a conscious decision to keep his family background separate from his career. In an interview with India Today, Zahaan explained how he approaches his work, emphasizing his desire to be known for his efforts rather than his lineage.
Zahaan clarified that while he is proud of his heritage, he wants his talent and dedication to speak for themselves. He mentioned that although people might always make references to his grandfather and have certain expectations, he does not wish to focus on that aspect. Zahaan stated, “I want my work, my effort, my intentionality, and my honesty to speak for itself. It is what it is.” This decision stems from his belief that the story and the craft behind his roles should be the main focus, rather than his family background.
Reflecting on his first project, Faraaz, Zahaan shared that he chose not to highlight his familial connections during its release. He said it would have been tone-deaf to make the film about Shashi Kapoor’s grandson, as the story deserved attention for what it was, not because of who he was related to.
In his current role in ‘Black Warrant’, Zahaan continues to stay focused on the craft. He expressed immense pride in his family but reiterated that it’s the story and the characters that should take precedence. Zahaan’s approach signals his determination to carve out his own identity in the entertainment industry, independent of the legacy of his renowned family.
