SHAHJAHANPUR: A 25-year-old man allegedly stabbed his mother to death using a spear when she tried to stop a fight between him and his wife in Shahjahanpur district, police said on Friday. The accused is now in police custody.
Superintendent of police (SP) Rajesh S said that the incident occurred in Ganpatpur village within Nigohi police jurisdiction on Thursday evening.
“Vinod Kumar, who often got into fights at home after consuming alcohol, was beating his wife on Thursday evening. When his mother Naina Devi (60) intervened, he attacked her with a spear, leading to her death,” the SP said.
Police officials arrived at the scene after being informed and secured the woman’s body, and arrested the accused man, stated the officer.
Authorities have registered a murder case and sent the body for post-mortem analysis, police confirmed.
Separately, authorities discovered the body of one Asaram, aged 55, by the roadside near Kajjar Bojhi village in Jalalabad police jurisdiction late Thursday night, as reported by police.
“The man was shot dead,” stated superintendent of police (Rural) Manoj Kumar Awasthi.
Police investigation and family statements revealed that two individuals, Sumer and Kallu, visited Asaram’s residence and persuaded him to accompany them for smoking before shooting him on the road, the SP explained.
Police have filed murder charges against the accused and arranged for post-mortem examination of the body.
