Planning a trip to Himachal Pradesh? As per the latest news reports, India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Shimla office has issued a yellow alert of heavy rain, thunderstorms in Himachal Pradesh today.
As per the IMD, light rain and snowfall are likely to occur at isolated locations in the districts of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, and the higher reaches of Chamba, Kangra, and Kullu. The weather office has further predicted light to moderate rain or snowfall at several places between March 12 and 14. These weather changes are expected to impact higher-altitude regions the most, making travel conditions potentially challenging.
According to IMD officials, the following two to three days will see a gradual increase in minimum temperatures of two to three degrees. Likewise, it is anticipated that the highest temperatures would rise by 3 to 5 degrees throughout the course of the next day. However, during the next three to four days, maximum temperatures are expected to decrease by two to three degrees after this temporary increase. Residents and visitors are cautioned to expect temperature swings during the next week.

There has been some mild rainfall in Himachal Pradesh over the past 24 hours. Across the state, minimum temperatures stayed average or very close to normal with no discernible variation. Temperatures in the plains were between 6 and 11 degrees Celsius, while the mid-hill and high-hill regions likewise saw typical weather. Keylong, a town in the Lahaul-Spiti area, had the lowest temperature ever recorded, at minus 6.9 degrees Celsius.
Maximum temperatures also remained stable, fluctuating between 23-28 degrees Celsius in the plains. Similarly, mid-hill and high-hill regions reported temperatures within their normal range.
Uttarakhand weather update
Unlike Himachal Pradesh, most areas in Uttarakhand remained dry, with strong sunlight prevailing throughout the day. However, scattered clouds were observed in some hilly regions. The meteorological department has forecast that the weather will remain dry in most parts of the state today, with intense sunshine expected in the plains. Some mountainous areas may continue to experience scattered clouds.
